Engineering
Intersect takes on a range of projects to assist research in NSW. These projects are available for all members to use. If you are interested in any of Intersect's projects, please contact us at enquiries@intersect.org.au.
Projects typically involve customised development, technology aggregation and system integration.
Selection of projects is based on the following factors:
- Reusability: how many different research groups could potentially use the technology we develop?
- Research impact and priorities
- Member benefit: to ensure that all of our member organisations have fair access to our project resources
- Project value and impact:
- Enabling high profile NSW research groups to improve collaboration scope
- Enabling an emerging research area
- Enabling NSW research to build linkages and collaboration with other disciplines
Intersect carries out projects funded from various schemes. Intersect also carries out "Innovation Projects" as part of member services. The Innovation Selection Process is set out here.
Reusability
Our aim is to select projects which provide services to many research endeavours. We achieve this by creating configurable and skinable solutions based on the needs of particular research projects.
Often, a customised solution may become a reusable solution based on similar but different needs arising from other research groups.
This results in a portfolio of reusable technologies and solutions. Intersect will reuse open source and other eResearch technologies when and where possible. Intersect will contribute technologies back to the open source eResearch community.
Software Development Practices
- Intersect's projects are executed to a high quality standard and take advantage of current best practices in software development
- We ensure that our developed systems are usable and attractive
- Our projects are professionally project managed.
Open Source
We aim to use open source technologies for development work. Should commercial technologies prove to be most effective, we will utilise them to provide the best solution.
