Java Developer - Sydney

Intersect is a research support company, focussing on “eResearch”- the use of advanced ICT methods to enable and enhance research methods. Intersect undertakes a range of projects across disciplines as part of our service to members.

Some of our projects have included developing systems or tools that:

  • improve the capture, management and discovery of microscope images to assist with the prevention and treatment of breast cancer patients;
  • make more effective use of gene sequencing instruments in order to improve the analysis of genomic data to help research into Crohn's disease and Alzheimer's;
  • collect rainfall data from farmers that will assist in the development of a new seasonal climate predictor;
  • enable the storage of a wide range of media around playgrounds which will be used to provide prevention and early stage intervention for obesity and mental ill health in young children.

 

To meet the growing demand for our services in NSW, we need some bright and energetic professionals who are looking to further their software engineering careers.  In particular, we are seeking Java Developers with the following skills & experience:

Essential Requirements:

  • tertiary qualifications in engineering or computer science;
  • up to 5 years software development experience;
  • strong Java skills with experience developing web applications;
  • experience with other languages/frameworks such as Ruby/Rails and Grails;
  • experience with Agile methodologies;
  • permanent resident of Australia or Australian citizen.

Highly Desirable Skills:

  • experience across the full software development life cycle;
  • experience with a range of open source libraries and tools, such as Spring, Hibernate, JUnit, Tomcat, Ant, Maven, Subversion, JIRA, Hudson and Eclipse;
  • experience with relational databases.

The eResearch community requires professionalism and a high degree of flexibility in meeting their goals.  Some roles will be based in our CBD head office. Other roles will be based at customer sites around Sydney.
